A Swedish scale up committed to industry decarbonization, Stegra is building a large integrated plant for green hydrogen, green iron and green steel production.
Stegra, formerly known as H2 Green Steel, is a Swedish company founded in 2020 with the goal of reducing carbon emissions in hard-to-abate industries, with a focus on steel production. The company is building an integrated plant in northern Sweden that, by replacing coal with green hydrogen and green iron, and using electricity from renewable sources, will reduce CO2 emissions compared with traditional steel making by up to 95%.
The €6.5 billion of funding secured by Stegra means construction is well underway and full-scale production is scheduled to start in 2026. The company is on a mission to start a clean industrial revolution and has plans to take its decarbonization mission outside of Sweden to new projects and locations.
