Fully owned by the Swedish state, energy giant Vattenfall generates heat and electricity across northern Europe to around 10 million customers.
Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest producers of electricity and heat. With around 21,000 employees, the company’s main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and the UK.
Vattenfall is committed to building a fossil-free future and operates a diverse and extensive portfolio of power plants across several countries, primarily focused on sustainable and low-carbon energy sources. The company aims to stop using fossil fuels in its own primary electricity or heat production by 2040.
A founding member of LeadIT, Vattenfall, alongside other founding members LKAB and SSAB, created the HYBRIT (Hydrogen Breakthrough Ironmaking Technology) project to develop the first fossil-free steel. Vattenfall has also entered partnerships with LeadIT members Salzgitter, SSAB and Cemvision to decarbonize value chains with the help of future upstream and downstream supply agreements.
